The Vinyasa Yoga

THE YOG

WHAT S ASHTANGA ?

Ashtanga Vinyasa is a more dynamic version of the traditional Hatha Yoga, especially adapted to the Western mentality. This type of yoga makes the body recover its flexibility and the mind’s acuteness. It is based on three main principles: 1 Vinyasas Sequences of poses in coordination with the breath. It is an ongoing practice using dynamic movements connected with the breath. 2 Ujjayi breath This is a specific guttural and constant way of breathing that ensures ventilation and an optimal energy management. It also has a great detoxifying effect. In Ashtanga, you will sweat. 3 The inner gaze: the drishti. Eyes are wide open and focussed on a point on the body to encourage concentration. Introduced in the West during the sixties by Shri K. Pattabhi Joïs, student of Krishnamacharya, Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional form of yoga born in Mysore, in the South of India. Ashtanga Yoga develops flexibility, strength and balance, and increases the practitioner’s energy levels. Ashtanga Yoga comprises six series or ‘garland of asanas’ (succession of postures) leading to a progressive release of physical, emotional and mental tension. Classes finish with inverted positions and one seated pose before relaxation. Ashtanga Yoga has now global recognition thanks to the real experienced benefits this practice provides.
